Children have to learn how to use the
Internet safely and wisely. Please follow the tips below
to navigate safely:
- Never give out any personal information
over the Internet...this includes your name, telephone number and
address.
- Never order anything without
obtaining your parent's permission first!
- Please keep your passwords a secret and
never tell anyone! Your password should not even be
shared with your friends.
- Remember to change your password
frequently. Try to think of unusual passwords and screen
names (user id).
- Be careful of what you write in an
e-mail message. E-mails and any other information that
you type on the Internet can be seen by others.
Nothing is completely private on the Internet.
- Always be courteous in your online
conversations. Always say "thank you" and be
polite.
- Never accept e-mails from people that
you don't know. Unknown e-mails may contain harmful viruses
and can damage your computer. Make sure to delete any
unknown e-mail before you open it.
- Never transmit, promote, or distribute
information that is known to be illegal.
- Never transmit information that is
harmful, abusive, racially or ethnically offensive, sexually
explicit, or otherwise offensive. If someone sends you an
offensive e-mail, please make sure to delete it immediately!
- Remember, never make plans to meet anyone
in person. People may appear nice and exciting during
an online conversation, however there are many people who are not
what they seem. This is sad, but it is a true
fact! There are people out there who are sick in the
head and harm innocent children.
- If someone tells you something in an
e-mail and ask you not to tell your parents or an adult...make
sure to let your parents know right a way!
- Have fun and share the Internet with
your parents! Have your parents schedule a time when you can
go online. Parents can also help you find safe web sites for
children.
